Paris has changed me.
It’s changed me in a lot of ways, but one thing it’s changed notably is my taste for clothes.
Before moving here, I never would have even considered possible to find certain things attractive.
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, today, I would like to talk to you about…the romper.
Romper. Onesie. Jumpsuit. All-in-One.
The French call it le Combishort (short) or le Combinaison (long).
It’s got a lot of names, but one thing it didn’t have for me (until now) is sex appeal.
I’m sorry, but who wants to look like a overgrown infant?
Until last spring, I started seeing them all over the Parisian streets. A LOT of them
And they looked GOOD. Really fresh, cute, and in this heat, completely practical.
So I was a convert.
I still haven’t introduced one into my closet, but I am eyeing a romper-drafting tutorial I found on the good ol’ web.
Speaking of the web, I thought I’d do some preliminary research there to see what kind of styles are out there.
It seems there are rompers (yes, I am particular to this word it seems) to suit every taste. Mine tend to lean more toward dressy, which is how the pale orange sorbet colored beaded romper from Asos caught my eye (top). It’s almost a dress! But more practical. The best of both worlds?
But the one that really stole my heart, dear reader, was the black, lacy Stella Mccartney number (below). An evening romper! Who would’ve thought? I’ve only ever seen those in magazines filed under “Red Carpet Disasters” and the like. Eek. But this one is…lovely! Sexy! And oh so…Glamourous! Adjectives I’d never thought I’d use to describe a romper.
Well, hats off to you, Paris and Parisiennes, you’ve opened my mind (and my closet) to new possibilities. And for that, I say Merci!
